2007 Prawn growers meeting marketing presentation

I attended the 2007 US prawn growers meeting Dec 6-7 in Nashville,Tn once again lots of good information was exchanged between the universities and the growers. I will Post as much of this information as i can find so check back regularly.  It looks like next year the meeting will be moved to Raliegh,Nc so i hope you can all attend. These meetings are fun and informative.

I have been asked to be on the board of directors ,a postition i will probably take so i can help with the direction that the association takes in the next few years.

One of the very first topics we discussed at the meeting was the direction we can take as Prawn growers to expand from a niche market to a more visable product that can grow in the market place.

This will be a challeging endevor for us all but is much needed for this industry to grow.

I will be working closely with the Virginia aqua-farmers network and different reginal marketing directors to try and move forward with our Prawn sales on a bigger scale. I hope shortly after the first of the year to move forward with some things that are being planned to make this a highly succesful year. of course i will keep you informed of our progress. We are hoping for continuing support from the tobacco commision and other organizations to work to build a strong organization that can accomdate all the potential new and current growers this season.

We here at Strawberry Creek Shrimp farm are looking at expanding our nursery capabilities this year to support all the new growers that wish to produce shrimp this year and hopefully we can have the markets ready to move these shrimp. We also will continue or bait trout business and hopefully can work to establish Trout fee fishing operations with our Prawn producers over the winter months to help the ponds produce more product and income throughout the year. We believe there is alot of potential for fee fishing here in the southside,Va area.

Well i think for now that is a good summary of where were at and where we are headed as we get closer to a new year so for now i will wish you all a happy holiday season and we look forward to seeing you all next year. 2008 should be an exciting time for us all.

Remember all shrimp orders should be placed no later that Jan 31,2008 to insure your shrimp
deliveries for next year.

Thank You
